This study aims to explore the impact of the outreach programmes organised by the Faculty of Social Sciences, Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS), at secondary schools through a hands-on learning approach aimed at fostering students’ interests, aspirations, and understanding in the fields of Mass Communication and English Language Studies. The data was collected through in-depth interviews conducted at three schools, namely SMK Dusun Nanding, SMK Sijangkang Jaya, and SMK Taman Selayang. The interviews were analysed to identify key themes from participant feedback and facilitator observations. The findings revealed three main themes: (i) a shift in students' aspirations from having no direction to developing ambitions, (ii) increased understanding of the real-world career landscape, and (iii) greater awareness of the importance of higher education and strengthened communication between schools and students. The study highlights that a hands-on approach can enhance students' interest in specific fields, shape their career aspirations, and reinforce the university’s role as a bridge between academia and the school community. The implications suggest that such programmes should be expanded to strengthen university–school collaboration and support the human capital development agenda.
